Mann Power Consulting Ltd specialise in using an ancient technology, in order to provide an environmentally and fish-friendly solution to renewable energy. Since bringing the Archimedean Screw turbine into the UK for the first time as a generating technology, Mann Power Consulting has remained at the forefront of supplying this specialist equipment for more than 40 hydro- generation projects since 2004. 

The Archimedean Screw has traditionally been used for pumping water for over 2000 years, and provides a fish-friendly alternative to conventional turbines. By reversing the original principle for the modern market, Mann Power are able to offer a new and efficient method of using water to generate power, which offers a real alternative to existing turbines. Archimedean Screw Turbine

Archimedean Screws offer a wide range of advantages working efficiently with flows from 100 to 10,000 litres per second over heads from 1 metre to 10 metres high with minimal civil work required.  They have the potential to achieve an efficiency of up to 87%,  and suffers no head loss from fine screens or pressure pipes.  The technology is also fully operational down to 15% of the maximum flow. Our solutions are reliable and robust, and come in a choice of three designs: steel trough, closed compact and open compact, depending on the individual requirements. 
 
Each Archimedean Screw is bespoke, with the length and diameter manufactured in accordance with the parameters of your individual site, and can be finished in the colour of your choice. Our experienced team are happy to assist with any queries you may have at any point of the scheme development process.

Feasibility Study

Mann Power Consulting Ltd can provide a detailed feasibility study to see if an Archimedean Screw system is right for your site. By the end of the study, each client will have an appraisal of the viability of the scheme for your individual project, as well as information on costs and possible revenue. The feasibility study includes a site visit, carrying out detailed measurements and discussing your requirements and what you would like to achieve. We will provide a desktop estimation of flow data and potential energy capture, and we will assess the suitability of Archimedean Screws for your site. We will always recommend alternative systems if these would suit your site better, for your peace of mind. We will then calculate costs and the economic payback that you will be able to achieve. Design Study

Once it has been confirmed that an Archimedean Screw will suit your site, the Design Study outlines the basic parameters of the scheme in size, anticipated output, layout, environmental considerations, necessary consultation and budget, providing much more detail than the initial feasibility study. As part of this, we will revisit your site and confirm any environmental aspects, as well as initiate discussions with the Environment Agency and planners on your behalf. We will provide a procurement of flow data specific to your site, with accompanying sketches, to generate accurate energy capture information and to size the equipment, which will also offer a more detailed budget for the supply and installation of the system as well as likely timescales. Of course, our dedicated team will be happy to assist you at any point, and can keep you up to date with any developments throughout this stage.

Detailed Project Plan

Our subsequent detailed project plan will occur after we have prepared all appropriate permissions for the relevant statutory bodies, supplying you with all other necessary documentation in order to begin building the scheme. We will also outline full costings. As part of the process, our specialist team will consult with the Environment Agency, the planning authority and relevant parties (including landowners, fishing organisations and other water users) to finalise the best possible design, and as such we will provide detailed design drawings and a construction method statement.  These will be used for gaining Planning Permission and any required Environment Agency Licensing. We will also prepare an initial environmental report, and finalise any other necessary licenses and permissions required.

Construction and Installation

The next stage of the process is the construction and installation stage, and we will agree in advance with you how much or how little Mann Power Consulting are involved in this area. We are highly experienced in selecting and providing contractors and equipment suppliers, as well as offering development of final drawings and providing full project management and supervision of the installation itelf; however we recognise that many companies have their own contractors or staff who are able to undertake these tasks. We will be happy to discuss the best solution with you, depending on the complexity of the project and your budget and timescale. Mann Power Consulting can also negotiate on your behalf a suitable power purchase agreement with an electricity trading company, if required. Commissioning

At the final commissioning stage, Mann Power Consulting can be as involved as much or as little as each client requires. We are able to provide in-depth services providing system integration, G59 electrical testing or full operation and maintenance training, however it is also possible to have these services arranged by another contractor if preferred.
